on patrol and batch

since we've all settled down a bit... i guess there's a time to tackle those big questions raised during AC.

one of the most interesting issues that came out during AC is about patrol vs batch. it IS Annual Camp, competitive activity, points for patrol, and the J1s want to keep the competitive spirit up so that standards go up, and people put in more effort.

But on the other hand, there's the batch. Each patrol has about two or three of our batch, such a small batch, quite sad actually that so many people left before they can truly experience scouts, such as kok peng, amos, ming foong... and in such a small batch its important to build strong relationships. otherwise during projects and other stuff, we'll die cuz no one's helping one another.

How come during AC you can't keep both sides apart? Firstly, we're all competitors, we all want to own the other side, win top placing. There's no place for people who just say, "I'll let you win this because you're my friend.". There's also your patrol members to think of, how they'll feel if you tamely concede defeat. Second, there's so many activities in AC which got potential to backstab or offend another patrol, so won't they want revenge?

During AC, i'm sad to say that i've probably contributed somewhat to the anger. either through the compulsory backstabbing sessions, through acts like stupid quiz, and the O1 challenge... was it my fault? I dunno... there's only so much you can do.

The last FEar session... chose the option not to backstab. after the discussion there just doesnt seem like it matters anymore. even before the talk... every night before i sleep i kinda reflect on the decisions i make. I still do... how different would AC be without it? Have to ask the J1s on this... Was KF in danger of being backstabbed? Duh... some people keep harping on KF's supposed imba-ness... distract others from their own.

Anurak (Kestrel), Francis (Eagle), Hiok (Hawk), Sup (Owl), Kenneth (Falcon). All nice guys. i understand why survivor works, because those people just come together for once in their lives, and after the game they never have to interact with each other again. How would be like to work with someone you know could have caused your downfall?

Just some thoughts.
